Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Geologists use the term “marble” to refer to metamorphosed limestone; however, stonemasons use the term more broadly to encompass unmetamorphosed limestone. Currently, marble is very popular as a material for kitchen and bath countertops. Especially the white marbles with soft gray veining. We recommend to hone marble that is in the kitchen to minimize etch marks or rings from glasses etc. Acids in food (lemons, tomatoes, wine) and minerals in water can leave etch marks on marble, so the polished surface appears to be matte. If honed, and sealed regularly marble can be a beautiful natural option for countertops. We do recommend to reseal marble tops a few times a year depending on usage. Also, the benefit of natural stone is that stains can be removed with a poultice. And some scratches can be removed, if not too deep.
